EU will announce that there will be no ban on playing at present

In a recent statement, an EU official from the member state of Kurupa, who oversees consumer protection matters, is set to announce at a press conference on the 22nd that China has made significant progress in ensuring the safety of toys exported to Europe. The European Union currently does not plan to ban any Chinese-made toys, as per the latest reports. Statistics reveal that 80% of toys imported into the EU come from China, highlighting the country's dominant role in the global toy market. According to the "Beijing Commercial Daily," the implementation of the EU RoHS Directive—aimed at restricting hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment—has already affected the export of certain Chinese home appliances, electrical tools, and toys. This directive targets eight categories of products, adding new regulatory challenges for Chinese manufacturers. Following the recall of 21 million Chinese-made toys by Mattel, one of the world’s largest toy companies, there were growing calls from EU and U.S. officials to ban imports of "Made in China" products. These repeated recalls had a negative impact on the Chinese toy industry and led to a decline in global confidence in Chinese-made toys. A spokesperson from the European Commission stated that based on a report provided by the Chinese government, the EU acknowledges the significant efforts China has made in preventing the export of unsafe toys. As a result, there is no need for a full ban on Chinese toy imports. The EU official responsible for consumer protection, Kuneva, will officially share this information during the press conference on the 22nd. The issue began when Mattel recalled 21 million toys over the past four months, prompting European and U.S. lawmakers to demand stricter measures against Chinese imports. In response, China launched a large-scale campaign to eliminate unsafe products and enhance quality control, while also submitting detailed reports to both the EU and the U.S. to clarify the situation. An EU official remarked, “We did not expect such a positive response from the Chinese government.” He added, “Banning all Chinese goods one by one would be impractical for both the industry and consumers. If that happened, people would have to pay more during the holiday season before Christmas.” To address the concerns, China implemented two key actions: increasing inspections tenfold and conducting local inspections, while also revoking thousands of export permits. These steps were aimed at improving product safety and restoring trust in the market. Europe and the U.S. are now working together to establish a global standard for toy safety. China is taking this matter seriously, with Kuneva focusing on rebuilding consumer confidence in the toy market ahead of the holiday season. “Her report will serve as a reminder to the industry about its responsibilities,” said the European Commission. “Manufacturers must take on their part in ensuring the first line of defense for consumer safety.” Kuneva is expected to propose the idea of a global toy safety standard. She has already discussed this with U.S. officials earlier this month. Major toy companies like Mattel, Hasbro, and Hornby have also expressed support for creating a new independent global institution to regulate the market according to updated standards. “The EU is leading in this effort. If the U.S. joins, it could lead to a truly global standard that all countries, including China, would have to follow,” the official noted.
