Beiliu City Rural Credit Co., Ltd. “Ting” Bamboo Industry Development

On October 18th, the 5th China (Dongyang) Wood Carving, Bamboo Crafts and Art Fair kicked off in Dongyang, Zhejiang Province. The event showcased thousands of exquisite bamboo and wood-carved items, each reflecting remarkable craftsmanship and artistic value. Visitors were amazed by the creativity and quality on display. As a sustainable and eco-friendly material, bamboo has gained increasing popularity in recent years. In Beiliu City, particularly in Baima Town—renowned as the "Hometown of Chinese Bamboo Weaving"—the local community has been leveraging rural finance to boost the bamboo weaving industry. This effort has helped establish the city’s largest production and export base for bamboo crafts. Beiliu City Rural Credit Cooperatives have played a key role in supporting this growth. By providing financial assistance and resources, they have empowered local residents, especially those in Baima Town, to make the most of their bamboo resources. This initiative has not only strengthened the traditional craft but also expanded its reach, helping create a thriving industry that supports thousands of people. By the end of July this year, the credit cooperatives had provided over 550 million yuan in support to the bamboo sector, benefiting more than 5,000 farmers. Through these efforts, farmers have been able to improve their production techniques and diversify their products, including bamboo, rattan, and iron-based handicrafts. Today, Baima Town employs around 11,000 people in the bamboo weaving industry, with annual exports reaching 35 million yuan. This success has created a clear path for local farmers to achieve economic prosperity and improve their livelihoods.
