In early February, Pan Pan and Li Chen officially joined the tide shop NPC, setting up a new location in Sanlitun, which was seen as filling a gap in the local trend scene. Since last year, Nic has been collaborating with renowned designer Michael Lau on a limited edition T-shirt and other exclusive products. This partnership was further highlighted by an Afterparty event at Bling, offering a vibrant visual experience for attendees.
The arrival of Pan Pan and Li Chen in Beijing has sparked excitement, especially after the city was often criticized for lacking a strong streetwear culture compared to Shanghai, where tide shops are more established. Now, with this new store opening, it's clear that Beijing is stepping up its game.
The store's design features a minimalist aesthetic, with bold three-letter branding on the metal door. Inside, green grass-like wallpaper and eco-friendly decor reflect a sustainable approach. The opening day was packed with fans and influencers, including Huang Weiwen, Lin Junjie, and Hu Yanbin, showing strong support from the local community.
To celebrate the launch, Pan Pan and Li Chen brought in their close friend, Hong Kong-based doll designer Michael Lau. He participated in the 10th Anniversary exhibition of the Gardener series in mainland China. Among the highlights were the 109 Gardener dolls, along with rare design sketches and oil paintings. While the 109 dolls weren’t available for sale, a special co-branded collection was launched, featuring limited-edition pieces priced at 360 RMB each.
Li Chen’s own brand, “NIC IS COMING,†also introduced a special cotton jacket for the Beijing store. Available in blue and red, it features a traditional “porcelain†character embroidered on the back, giving it a distinct Beijing flair. A baseball jacket was also showcased, with a price point that made it appealing to a wide audience.
As a fan of Nike, the store currently carries a curated selection of classic Nike styles, with more brands planned for future releases. While Chen Guanxi was still focused on the Shanghai market, Li Chen took a bold step into Beijing, proving his vision and determination to bring trend culture to the capital.
