H&M was founded in Sweden in 1947 by Erling Persson. Today, H&M sells clothing, accessories and cosmetics in more than 1,500 stores worldwide. The old H&M store on Stora Gatan Street in Sweden is the world’s first H&M store. The H&M brand name is a combination of "Hennes" (meaning "she" in Swedish) and "Mauritz" men's clothing brand, each taking the first letter to make "H&M".
