Concern about new EU textile labeling regulations

Recently, the EU adopted a new regulation on textile labeling. The Regulations revise the current regulations on the use of textile fiber names, labels, and markings, as well as judging the composition of textile fibers. The purpose is to regulate the textile description of textile products in the EU market and the textile labeling system.

The scope of application of the new EU regulation is “80% by weight of textile fibers or related parts of textile products”. The new regulation clearly stipulates that when manufacturers and importers place textiles on the EU market, they have a responsibility to ensure that the labels attached to the products are attached. Or the information on the mark is correct; the name of the various fibers used in the product must be listed on the label or mark in descending order of weight percentage; the single fiber that accounts for less than 5% of the total weight of the textile, or the total weight of the total textile product is insufficient 15% of the various fibers can be classified as "other fibers." The regulation will also require suppliers to indicate on the label non-textile parts derived from animals, such as fur and leather parts. The new regulation supersedes three existing EU Directives, 73/44/EEC, 96/73/EC and 2008/121/EC, and will take effect after the publication of the Official Journal of the European Union.

In inspection and supervision of products exported to the European Union, the textile inspection personnel of the Changzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau found that the problems with the labels of textiles and garments were: the fiber component labels did not meet the requirements, such as the fiber content was inconsistent, the fiber label name did not match the actual product, and the fibers were marked Inconsistent with the contract of the components, etc.; The washing marks do not meet the requirements, and some products that require washing marks do not indicate the washing requirements or the labels are incorrect; Violation of the domestic and foreign trademark use regulations; Use of foreign well-known trademarks for production and operations without any authorization .

To this end, the Changzhou Bureau reminds textile and garment exporters: First, they must attach great importance to the new regulation on EU textile labeling, actively learn to be familiar with the mandatory requirements of the new regulations, and correctly label textiles in order to ensure that products conform to EU requirements; The second is to strengthen the review of customer-provided labels, to prevent customer labels from failing to meet the requirements of EU importing countries, and to bring about unnecessary losses; Third is to realize that labels are also an important part of product quality, and to be honest and self-disciplined. , The label of the indeterminate component shall be promptly checked by the relevant authoritative inspection department to avoid the notification, return or confiscation of textiles exported to Europe due to irregular labeling.
