How to identify original celadon and imprinted pottery

The transition from pottery to porcelain was in the Shang and Zhou dynasty. During this period, because the processing was not very elaborate, the tires, glazes and ingredients were not accurate, and the control of the heat was not mature enough. The quality of the porcelain produced during this period was poor, so it was called “original porcelain. "Or "original celadon" or even "glazed pottery." In production, the original celadon and some patterned pottery (known as imprinted pottery) were even fired in a kiln. Porcelain and pottery were mixed together to make it difficult to distinguish.

To this end, some experts said that the firing temperature of the printed pattern ceramics is from 1150°C to 1200°C. Due to the high iron content, the color of the tires is slightly darker, generally dark brown, yellow-brown, purple-brown, etc., and there is no glazing; A higher firing temperature causes the surface of the ceramic tire to be sintered and has a similar gloss to the glaze, but the texture is rough. In the ancient kiln site, archaeologists often found the original celadon and the printed pottery with the kiln. Some of the printed pottery was burned just right, while the original celadon was not full of heat because of the heat; some of the original celadon burned well and the printed pottery was burned down. This shows that in addition to the raw materials used, the raw celadon and the printed ceramics have different firing temperatures.

In addition, the original celadon and imprinted pottery also have a clear division in the types and uses of the pottery: the imprinted pottery bone is hard and heavy, the surface is rough and unglazed, and it is suitable for food; the raw celadon is exquisite, the device is neat, and the surface is smooth. The transparent glaze layer, which facilitates lip-to-lip contact or facilitates washing, is mostly made into eating utensils.
